The fishing this winter has been great! We have had a much milder winter so far this year compared to the last two years. Fishing has been great on both the 4 and 8 hour trips. We are catching lots of White Grunts, Sea Bass, Porgies and Grouper. The Gag Grouper season remains closed, so we have to release all Gags that are caught. We have been catching a few Red Grouper that are legal size on both trips. The All Day has been catching some Hogfish on a pretty regular basis. These are an excellent eating fish with white, mild and flaky filets. They can be caught on the bait supplied on board, but you stand a better chance if you bring frozen shrimp or live Fidler Crabs.

The Gulf Council should be announcing the dates for the upcoming Red Snapper and Gag Grouper seasons. Red Snapper will open on June 1 with the close date to be announced. Everything is pointing to a July 1 Gag Grouper opening running until the end of October. This has not been officially announced, so we will keep you updated. All Grouper are closed the month of February and March.

I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Come on out and take advantage of this wonderful Winter weather that we have had so far this season. The fish are biting and the seas are calm. See you all soon!!!

Capt. Gag Grouper season ends on November 15th, so we will have one long trip before the season ends. Reservations will begin on Monday October 24th. The positions will be first come, first served on the day of the trip. You will be able to start boarding at 2:30am. The last few years our "Ironman" trip has been pretty successful. We have brought in anywhere from 40-97 Grouper. Make your reservations and join us on the last extended trip for Gag Grouper this year.

Our 4 and 8 hour trips have been doing very well. The Grunts, Sea Bass and Porgies have been biting as well as Gag and Red Grouper. Most 8 hour trips have been catching 400-700 panfish with 6-15 Grouper and some days up near 30. The 4 hour trips have been catching 100-250 panfish on average with a handful of Grouper as well.

The water temps are cooling and the fish are biting well. Come on down and join the fun.

Capt. The season for 2011 will run from September 16 to November 15. The bag limit will be 2 fish per person. We will have a 14 hour trip on Saturday November 12 from 4am-6pm. Reservations for this trip will begin on Monday October 24 . I may set dates for additional earlier trips soon. We have our annual maintenance and Coast Guard inspection coming in September and several charters booked for October, but I will try to work in a couple of 14 hour trips during the Gag season. There will be no 24 hour trips this fall. The Gulf Council will not open a Red Snapper season this fall as they did last year.

Our 4 hour trips have been drifting and catching lots of Grunts, Sea Bass and Porgies with a Legal Red Grouper here and there. The 8 hour trips have been catching the same with a few more Red Grouper and several Gags that we are releasing. The busy season is just about over and there has been plenty of room on each trip, but we still recommend reservations for all trips.

See you all soon!!

Capt. We still managed to bring in 74 Red Snapper, about a dozen Red Grouper and 30 Mangrove Snapper. The fishing was a little picky, but we managed to find two spots that they bit very well on. We release in the neighborhood of 50 Gag Grouper that would have kept, if the season was open as well as 15 Amberjack. The 24 Hour Trip leaves this Saturday, I am expecting a great trip. This is the longest closure we have ever seen for Gag. Some extended trips for Gag will most likely be available when the season opens. The Double Eagle Fleet has joined with the Charter Fisherman's Association in pursuing new programs that will ensure that access to the Gulf Fishery for our customers. We are currently working with the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council and National Marine Fisheries Service on the implementation of a seperate FMP(Fishery Management Plan) for the Charter for Hire and headboat fleet. If the plan is successful, it will ensure a sustainable fishery for the charter for hire and headboat fleet. This would allow us to be 100 % accountable for our fishery and give us longer fishing seasons. During this meeting they will be addressing the 2011 season for Gag Grouper in the Gulf of Mexico. I will be attending this meeting and will set dates for the 14 Hour and possible 24 Hour summer trips when I return. Stay tuned to our blog for dates. As of now, Gag Grouper are still closed for harvest. We should know soon when the season will open. rumor has it that the season will be from September 16 - November 15. Red Grouper are now open and Red Snapper will open June 1, so we will not have any extended trips until at least the beginning of June.

Our regular 4 and 8 hour trips have been doing great. We are having great catches of Grey Snapper(aka White Grunts) Sea Bass, Porgies and some "keeper" Red Grouper. The 8 hour trip is catching the same with a few more legal Red Grouper than the half day. One recent catch ahd a total of 26 legal Red Grouper up to approx. 18 lbs. Both trips have been releasing several nice Gag Grouper each day. Hopefully the season will open soon!!

Weather has been great. Light winds and calm seas have been the norm. We are in our busy season, so we recommend reservations for all trips. We have some private charters on the schedule so please be sure to check availability of your desired trip before you make the drive to the marina. Trips availability and reservations can be made by calling our ticket office.

Say goodbye to a long, cold winter and hello to a gorgeous Spring. Come on down and go fishing. The holiday season is approaching fast. We have gift certificates available for both Half Day and All Day trips. Tickets can be purchased in person at our ticket office or by phone at 727-446-1653. If the weather cooperates, we tend to be busy throughout the christmas season. RESERVATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR ALL TRIPS. We also suggest arriving 45 minutes early for all trips. Parking for afternoon Half Day trips is at a premium, the earlier you arrive the less hassel to find parking. Most times you can find parking spots being vacated by morning trip patrons. Fishing has been good to great on days when the weather cooperates. The All Day has had most trips with 10-24 legal Grouper. Some trips in the 35-50 Grouper range, with plenty of Grunts and assorted others. The Half Day has had plenty of Grunts with some legal Grouper catches up near 10. For the first time ever, we are facing a 6 month Gag Grouper Closed Season with a possible extension. Gag Grouper will be closed to harvest from January 1, 2011 to June 30, 2011. We will be able to keep Red Grouper through this time except for February and March, when all Shallow Water Grouper will be closed. To recap, no Gag Grouper Jan. 1- June 30. No Gag or Red Grouper from Feb. 1- March31. We will keep you informed on any updates to these closures as we get information. I am constantly doing research and atteding meetings to not only get data but to give my input on possible changes. The crew at the Double Eagle wishes everyone a Happy Holiday Season. See you all soon.

Capt. We have hit our summertime fishing pattern, with hot weather and calm seas for the last several weeks. Fishing has remained decent though. We have been drifting on the half day trips and having great catches of Grunts, Sea Bass, Porgies and several undersize Grouper. We have had some trips with legal sized Grouper, the best trip being 10 keepers. The all day has been having catches consisting of Grunts, Sea Bass, Porgies, Mangrove Snapper and Grouper. We have also been surprised by some nice catches of Hogfish. These tasty fish are generally a target of spearfisherman due to the tough time catching them with a hook and line. Our catches of Hogfish have been up in the 8-10 fish range on some trips. We will start to dry dock our boats the first week of September and this will go for 3-6 weeks. Please keep an eye on our blog and call our ticket office for trip schedules and reservations. We will be running half day trips on Sun, Mon and Tues. All day trips will be Wed, Thur, Fri and Sat. Always call ahead for a reservation. Stat cool and see you soon!!

Capt. The half day trips are coming in with good numbers of grunts or as we call them, " Grey Snapper". They are a pan sized fish that are excellent eating. We have also been catching several grouper with a few being "Keepers". With high water temps and light winds, we have been having better luck drifting on this trip. Our all day is catching the same types of fish with a few more "Keepers" coming aboard. We have been spliting up the fishing on this trip, depending on the weather conditions. Some days have been very slow and we have been doing better on a drift. All in all the fishing is still productive this time of year, it can just be very hot. Come down and see us and bring plenty of cold drinking water. We do still have a few more spots, so come down and get on this trip. We have scheduled the final 14 Hour Trip of the season for Friday July 23rd. We are currently taking reservations for this trip and this is the last trip of the 2010 Red Snapper Season. Our 8 Hour All Day trips have been doing well catching a fair amount of Grunts, SeaBass, Porgies and Mangrove Snapper. We are also still doing well with "Keeper" Grouper with catches up to 25. The half day is drifting now and having outstanding catches of Grunts and SeaBass with a "Keeper" Grouper here and there. The BP disaster is keeping its distance from us for now. The water is still clean and the beaches are still clear. The closed fishing area is still over 100 miles from our average fishing grounds and we have seen no ill effects from it. The weather has been great, although hot, and the fishing has been above normal for the summertime. So LET'S GO FISHING!!!

Capt. Business has been pretty good and the fish are still biting pretty well. We have recently had catches up to 30 "Keeper" Grouper of the last several weeks on our All Day trip. The half day has been doing some drifting and catching plenty of grunts with a few grouper mixed in. Our last 14 Hour trip on June 6 was excellent. We had 60 Red Snapper, 30 Grouper and 36 Mangrove Snapper. We had a private 34 Hour Trip on June 25-26 and we brought in over 2,000 lbs of fish. We had our limit of Red Snapper (120), 80 Grouper(up to 20lbs) and over 300 Mangrove Snapper (up to 8lbs). We have our next open 34 Hour Trip scheduled for July 17-18 and a 14 Hour Trip on July 11. We are currently taking reservations for both of these trips. Luckily, as of now, the OIL SPILL is staying well away from us. The closest closure,as of today, is approximately 90 miles away. We are still watching closely and will relay any news to all of you as we receive it. Thanks for checking out the blog and keeping me on my toes!!!

Capt. It was the first trip of the 2010 Red Snapper Season and the trip was a success. We landed 60 Red Snapper, 29 Grouper and 26 large Mangrove Snapper. Again we had approximately 24 Amberjack that were all about an inch short. They did, however, make for some excitement. The next 14 Hour is scheduled for July 11th and we are currently taking reservations for that trip. The 34 Hour Trip scheduled for June 12-13 has been cancelled due to lack of paid fares. This is unfortunate because the fishing has been outstanding. We have another that is tentatively scheduled for July 17-18. Hopefully we will have enough interest to run that trip. The OIL SPILL is a daily concern and we are watching it closely. As I have stated several time earlier, the spill is not affecting us at this time. We are still operating on a business as usual schedule, so LET'S GO FISHING!! Hope to see you soon.

Capt. Please keep an eye on our blog and also a new article that will appear on our home page later this week. Our 14 Hour Trip is coming up on June 6th. The fishing has been pretty good this last week. Half day trips are catching stringers of Grunts, SeaBass and Porgies with some "Keeper" Grouper thrown in. All trips have had the same with more Grouper, some catches have been up around 20 "keepers". Some fish weighing in the 12-15 pound range. We are watching the OIL SPILL daily and keeping our fingers crossed that it stays away. So far we have been lucky and our trips are running as scheduled. The 14 Hour trip is filling up, so make your reservation today and be sure to pay by 5/13 to guarantee your spot. The 34 Hour trip is filling up fast as well, make your reservation today. On last years trips, we had nearly 3,000 lbs. of fish on each trip. Stay tuned for more updates. I have several updates and comments for you all. First, in regards to the OIL SPILL in the northern gulf, we are not currently effected by the spill. We are keeping a close eye on the movement of the spill as it increases in size, and hope that it stays well away from us. All trips are running as scheduled with no sight of any changes in the near future. Keep an eye on our blog for further updates as needed. Fishing has been pretty decent. We have been catching several "keeper" grouper on both Half Day and All Day trips along with our usual Grunts, Sea Bass and Porgies. We have also been landing several nice king Fish on both trips. I would like you all to help me welcome back a long time employee, who took a small leave of absence from the company. Our newest Captain, Luke Palmer, has been back for a couple of weeks now and has been bringing in some nice catches on both the Half Day and All Day trips. Welcome back Luke!!! After a long, cold and windy winter, it looks as though spring is finally here! The weather has been great and the fishing is getting better! Grouper season will open tomorrow and the people are coming out to catch 'em. We are looking pretty busy over the next week or so with all of the above factors coming together along with spring break and Easter vacation. If you are looking to come fishing, be sure to call and reserve your spot because the boats have been filling up. Also, if you are looking for a half day trip in the afternoon, be sure to allow plenty of travel time. The traffic has been heavy with beach goers so it can take up to 30 minutes or so to get across the causeway to the beach. Parking in the afternoon has been crazy so if you are going on the afternoon trip, it is best to get there around noon so you can grab the parking spots vacated by the morning patrons. Are 14 Hour trip is going on April 11th spots are limited and going fast. So if you are looking for that trip, call to reserve your spots today! Keep your eye on the blog for further trip info, including 34 Hour trips coming this June!!

See Ya Soon!! Capt.
