HOLIDAY SEASON / 2011 GAG GROUPER SEASON

Hi everyone. The holiday season is approaching fast. We have gift certificates available for both Half Day and All Day trips. Tickets can be purchased in person at our ticket office or by phone at 727-446-1653. If the weather cooperates, we tend to be busy throughout the christmas season. RESERVATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR ALL TRIPS. We also suggest arriving 45 minutes early for all trips. Parking for afternoon Half Day trips is at a premium, the earlier you arrive the less hassel to find parking. Most times you can find parking spots being vacated by morning trip patrons. Fishing has been good to great on days when the weather cooperates. The All Day has had most trips with 10-24 legal Grouper. Some trips in the 35-50 Grouper range, with plenty of Grunts and assorted others. The Half Day has had plenty of Grunts with some legal Grouper catches up near 10. For the first time ever, we are facing a 6 month Gag Grouper Closed Season with a possible extension. Gag Grouper will be closed to harvest from January 1, 2011 to June 30, 2011. We will be able to keep Red Grouper through this time except for February and March, when all Shallow Water Grouper will be closed. To recap, no Gag Grouper Jan. 1- June 30. No Gag or Red Grouper from Feb. 1- March31. We will keep you informed on any updates to these closures as we get information. I am constantly doing research and atteding meetings to not only get data but to give my input on possible changes. The crew at the Double Eagle wishes everyone a Happy Holiday Season. See you all soon.

August Update

Hi everyone. We have hit our summertime fishing pattern, with hot weather and calm seas for the last several weeks. Fishing has remained decent though. We have been drifting on the half day trips and having great catches of Grunts, Sea Bass, Porgies and several undersize Grouper. We have had some trips with legal sized Grouper, the best trip being 10 keepers. The all day has been having catches consisting of Grunts, Sea Bass, Porgies, Mangrove Snapper and Grouper. We have also been surprised by some nice catches of Hogfish. These tasty fish are generally a target of spearfisherman due to the tough time catching them with a hook and line. Our catches of Hogfish have been up in the 8-10 fish range on some trips. We will start to dry dock our boats the first week of September and this will go for 3-6 weeks. Please keep an eye on our blog and call our ticket office for trip schedules and reservations. We will be running half day trips on Sun, Mon and Tues. All day trips will be Wed, Thur, Fri and Sat. Always call ahead for a reservation. Stat cool and see you soon!!

August Update

We have began are pattern of normal summertime fishing. The half day trips are coming in with good numbers of grunts or as we call them, " Grey Snapper". They are a pan sized fish that are excellent eating. We have also been catching several grouper with a few being "Keepers". With high water temps and light winds, we have been having better luck drifting on this trip. Our all day is catching the same types of fish with a few more "Keepers" coming aboard. We have been spliting up the fishing on this trip, depending on the weather conditions. Some days have been very slow and we have been doing better on a drift. All in all the fishing is still productive this time of year, it can just be very hot. Come down and see us and bring plenty of cold drinking water. See you soon!!

Final 14 Hour Trip for 2010 Red Snapper Season

Our 14 Hour Trip for July 11th is booking up fast. We do still have a few more spots, so come down and get on this trip. We have scheduled the final 14 Hour Trip of the season for Friday July 23rd. We are currently taking reservations for this trip and this is the last trip of the 2010 Red Snapper Season. Our 8 Hour All Day trips have been doing well catching a fair amount of Grunts, SeaBass, Porgies and Mangrove Snapper. We are also still doing well with "Keeper" Grouper with catches up to 25. The half day is drifting now and having outstanding catches of Grunts and SeaBass with a "Keeper" Grouper here and there. The BP disaster is keeping its distance from us for now. The water is still clean and the beaches are still clear. The closed fishing area is still over 100 miles from our average fishing grounds and we have seen no ill effects from it. The weather has been great, although hot, and the fishing has been above normal for the summertime. So LET'S GO FISHING!!!

Sorry for the lapse!!!

Sorry it has taken me a while to post some new updates. Business has been pretty good and the fish are still biting pretty well. We have recently had catches up to 30 "Keeper" Grouper of the last several weeks on our All Day trip. The half day has been doing some drifting and catching plenty of grunts with a few grouper mixed in. Our last 14 Hour trip on June 6 was excellent. We had 60 Red Snapper, 30 Grouper and 36 Mangrove Snapper. We had a private 34 Hour Trip on June 25-26 and we brought in over 2,000 lbs of fish. We had our limit of Red Snapper (120), 80 Grouper(up to 20lbs) and over 300 Mangrove Snapper (up to 8lbs). We have our next open 34 Hour Trip scheduled for July 17-18 and a 14 Hour Trip on July 11. We are currently taking reservations for both of these trips. Luckily, as of now, the OIL SPILL is staying well away from us. The closest closure,as of today, is approximately 90 miles away. We are still watching closely and will relay any news to all of you as we receive it. Thanks for checking out the blog and keeping me on my toes!!!

June Updates

Our 14 Hour Trip on June 6th went very well. It was the first trip of the 2010 Red Snapper Season and the trip was a success. We landed 60 Red Snapper, 29 Grouper and 26 large Mangrove Snapper. Again we had approximately 24 Amberjack that were all about an inch short. They did, however, make for some excitement. The next 14 Hour is scheduled for July 11th and we are currently taking reservations for that trip. The 34 Hour Trip scheduled for June 12-13 has been cancelled due to lack of paid fares. This is unfortunate because the fishing has been outstanding. We have another that is tentatively scheduled for July 17-18. Hopefully we will have enough interest to run that trip. The OIL SPILL is a daily concern and we are watching it closely. As I have stated several time earlier, the spill is not affecting us at this time. We are still operating on a business as usual schedule, so LET'S GO FISHING!! Hope to see you soon.

We had another successful 14 Hour Trip this month. We caught 40 Grouper and several Amberjack. Unfortunately, the Amberjack were just shy of the 30 inch size limit, so we could not keep any of them. GROUPER SEASON IS FINALLY HERE!!!

Hi again everyone. After a long, cold and windy winter, it looks as though spring is finally here! The weather has been great and the fishing is getting better! Grouper season will open tomorrow and the people are coming out to catch 'em. We are looking pretty busy over the next week or so with all of the above factors coming together along with spring break and Easter vacation. If you are looking to come fishing, be sure to call and reserve your spot because the boats have been filling up. Also, if you are looking for a half day trip in the afternoon, be sure to allow plenty of travel time. The traffic has been heavy with beach goers so it can take up to 30 minutes or so to get across the causeway to the beach. Parking in the afternoon has been crazy so if you are going on the afternoon trip, it is best to get there around noon so you can grab the parking spots vacated by the morning patrons. Are 14 Hour trip is going on April 11th spots are limited and going fast. So if you are looking for that trip, call to reserve your spots today!
